Understanding Revel’s Transition to a Not-for-Profit Model
As Revel grows, so does our responsibility to protect what makes this community special. Many families have asked what it means for Revel to become a not-for-profit, how it works, and how it may affect day-to-day life at the school. This post is intended to offer clarity and transparency as we move forward together.
What Is a Not-for-Profit?
A not-for-profit organization exists to serve a mission rather than generate profit for owners or shareholders. Any surplus funds are reinvested directly back into the organization to support its purpose. In Revel’s case, that purpose is learning, community, and creating environments where young people can thrive.
Becoming a not-for-profit does not mean Revel will operate “without money” or without careful financial planning. It means that decisions are guided first and foremost by what best serves learners and the community, not by financial return.
How a Not-for-Profit School Operates
As a not-for-profit foundation, Revel will be overseen by a board that is legally responsible for protecting the school’s mission and long-term health. This board provides governance and accountability while supporting the leadership team in carrying out the day-to-day work of the school.
Funding continues to come from tuition, donations, and community support, but any surplus is reinvested into programs, staff, resources, and future growth rather than distributed elsewhere.
What This Means for Families
For families, the learning experience remains rooted in the same values that have always defined Revel: curiosity, trust, collaboration, and care. Guides, programs, and relationships continue with intention and stability.
Over time, a not-for-profit structure allows Revel to:
Strengthen long-term sustainability and consistency
Protect the school’s values and educational approach
Reinvest resources directly into learners and learning
Grow thoughtfully in service of the community
Most importantly, it ensures that decisions are made with the future of learners at the center.
Why This Transition Matters
This transition is about protecting momentum, not changing who we are. Revel’s approach to learning is something we believe is worth sustaining and worth growing. A not-for-profit model provides the structure needed to steward that vision responsibly over time.
It allows Revel to remain a place that trusts learners, challenges them, and honors not only who they are today, but who they can become and the impact they can have on the world around them.
Moving Forward Together
We know transitions raise questions, and we are committed to ongoing communication and collaboration with families. Revel has always been shaped by its community, and this next chapter is no different.
Together, we are leveling up what Revel, and education, can be.
