Frequently Asked Questions

  • Revel 2.0, also referred to as Revel Up, represents the next chapter of Revel Academy. As our founding chapter comes to a close, Revel is evolving into a not-for-profit, foundation-led school model. This transition is designed to protect and strengthen what has always made Revel unique: trust in learners, meaningful relationships, and learner-centered, mastery-based education, while creating a structure that supports long-term sustainability and growth.

  • This transition is about stewardship. Becoming a not-for-profit allows Revel to place mission and learners at the center of every decision, reinvest resources directly into programming and community, and ensure long-term stability beyond any one individual or moment in time. It is a way of protecting the learning already underway and creating a structure that can serve learners and the broader Ottawa community with consistency and care.

  • Revel’s core values and approach to learning remain unchanged. Learners will continue to experience trust in their curiosity and capabilities, agency and autonomy in their learning, personalized and mastery-based progress, strong relationships with Guides and peers, and meaningful, real-world learning experiences. Revel 2.0 is not a departure from these principles. It is a commitment to protecting what makes Revel special while giving it the space, structure and support to grow in a way that expands, strengthens and evolves the learning experiences that make Revel so exceptional.

  • The most significant changes are happening behind the scenes. These include the creation of a formal not-for-profit foundation, a Board of Directors, clearer governance and operational structures. These shifts are designed to strengthen accountability, sustainability, and clarity of roles, while day-to-day learning experiences remain rooted in the same philosophy and practices that define Revel.

  • This work is being led by a Steering Committee and supported by Board members, Revel’s current staff and leadership team, educators, families, and community members who are deeply connected to Revel. Together, they are collaborating to ensure that decisions are grounded in Revel’s values, informed by experience, and guided by the best interests of learners.

  • Our priority is continuity of learning, relationships, and community. Current learners will continue to be supported in their individualized learning journeys, and families will remain connected through regular communication, information sessions, town halls, and opportunities to engage in the process. While structural elements are evolving, the heart of Revel, the learner experience, promises to remain steady and intentional.

  • Revel’s commitment to its learners extends beyond enrollment. Alumni remain an integral of Revel’s story, and this transition is about honoring and sustaining the learning legacy they helped build. Records, documentation, and the integrity of learners’ educational experiences are being carefully stewarded as part of the transition.

  • There are many ways to be involved. Community members can support this work by donating to help cover transition, legal, and operational costs, contributing time, expertise, or connections, attending information sessions and town halls, and joining our mailing list for ongoing updates. This next chapter is being built together, and community involvement continues to be a vital part of Revel’s future.
